Today, as short post about an error I faced when I needed to configure the Intune connector for Active Directory to set up Windows Autopilot Entra hybrid join.
The installation of the Intune connecter went without any issues. And the requirement for Edge WebView Runtime was also met.
But when the configuration wizard started and I clicked Sign in, I received an error:
We couldn’t create the data directory
Microsoft Edge can’t read and write to its data directory:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Intune\ODJConnector\ODJConnectorEnrollmentWizard\ODJConnectorEnrollmentWizard.exe.WebView2\EBWebView
My administrator account under which the installation was done, was a local admin on the server on which the connector was installed, so that shouldn’t be the issue. And also restarting the wizard specifically with run as administrator wasn’t the solution.
Luckily the solution is pretty simple, we need to make sure the Users have modify permissions on the ODJConnectorEnrollmentWizard.exe.WebView2 folder:
When this permission was assigned to the folder, the sign in screen showed when I started the wizard again and configuration of the connector also went fine.
I hope you don’t have the need to set up Windows Autopilot Hybrid join, but if you do need and face this issue, I hope this saves you from troubleshooting the issues.
